The ground is less than a mile from both Witton and Aston railway stations and has hosted sixteen England internationals at senior level, the first in 1899 and the most recent in 2005. Villa Park has hosted 55 FA Cup semi-finals, more than any other stadium.

Villa Park is one of the oldest and most famous stadiums in Europe. The actual location of Villa Park, in the Witton area of Birmingham, may not be as aesthetically pleasing - but for many people, it is equally romantic. They say Wembley may be the spiritual home of English football, but Villa Park is a close second. The club’s home since 1897, the ground sits in the shadow of the Jacobean stately home Aston Hall and has evolved over the years into a magnificent all-seated arena with a capacity of more than 42,000. The famous stadium is one of a select few that has staged international fixtures over three different centuries, the first senior international taking place in 1899.

Hotels Near Villa Park

Hotel City is the marketplace for hard to get hotels near Villa Park. The pub has separate entrances and is split between home and away supporters, with visiting fans using a large tented area to the rear of the pub. It does though charge £1 per person to enter. However when visiting teams are expected to bring a small following, then the whole pub reverts to being one for home fans only.

A couple of train stops further on from Witton Station and only a six-minute train ride is the Beaufort Arms, in Hamstead, which welcomes visiting supporters.

If you arrive a bit earlier then you may wish to visit the historic Bartons Arms, located about a 15-minute walk away on High Street Aston (A34). This Grade II listed building, is one of Birmingham's finest pubs, with superb Victorian decor, serving Oakham ales and Thai food is also on offer. It is a regular entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

If arriving by train into New Street Station then there are plenty of pubs to be found in the City Centre. Just outside the main entrance to the station, is the Shakespeare pub, which is popular with away fans, normally with the local Police keeping a watchful eye over proceedings. On Bennetts Hill, which is only a few minutes further walk away (pass the Shakespeare on your left, turn left at Tescos, then take the next right-hand turn by Ask Italia onto Bennetts Hill) are a number of pubs including the 'Sun On The Hill' pub, which also shows televised sports and a Wetherspoons pub called the Briar Rose. A little further up the hill is the Wellington pub which is a mecca for real ale drinkers. The Wellington does not provide food but has no objections to you bringing in your own. There are a couple of taxi ranks nearby that you can use if you wish to get you to Villa Park or hop back on the train.

Who are Aston Villa FC biggest rivals?

Aston Villa's arch-rivals are Birmingham City, with games between the two clubs known as the Second City Derby.

Who is the Aston Villa FC manager?

Dean Smith is an English professional football manager and former player who is the head coach of Premier League club Aston Villa. Starting his playing career as a defender with Walsall in 1989, over the course of five years he played 166 league and cup games.

Who is the most famous manager/player in Aston Villa FC history?

After a new low for the club – relegation to the Third Division in 1970 – Villa turned a new leaf by appointing Ron Saunders as coach. They were back in the First Division by 1975, the same year that saw them win another League Cup. With Saunders' ability to spot a good player and his famous "no-nonsense" approach to coaching, Villa's streak of good results continued into the 80s. After a League Cup victory in 1977 and an unpredicted First Division title in 1981, Villa won their first and only European Cup in 1982 by shocking the favored Bayern Munich in the Final. One of the heroes was the reserve goalkeeper Nigel Spink that replaced Jimmy Rimmer early in the match and made some astonishing saves. The last triumph was however made without Ron Saunders as the coach. Some months earlier, after a dispute with the chairman Ron Bendall at a time the team had a negative trend in the league Ron Saunders had decided to resign.
